1. Blending function with Curb Appeal : Custom car garages offer more than just a place to park — they enhance your home’s exterior with a clean, practical structure that complements your property. Whether attached or detached, a well-designed garage adds visual balance while meeting your everyday needs.

2. Designing for Versatility : Modern garages are designed with flexibility in mind. From secure vehicle storage to workshops, hobby rooms, or extra storage space, garages can be tailored to support a variety of uses while staying within local building regulations.

3. Built to withstand weather : A professionally designed garage ensures strength and durability to endure Ontario’s changing climate. Using weather-resistant materials and proper construction techniques helps protect your investment from snow, rain, and temperature extremes.

4. Enhancing property value : Adding a garage is one of the most effective ways to increase property value. Buyers often see garages as a must-have feature, and a well-built garage can make your home stand out in the province’s real estate market.

Our Expertise for Carport and Garage Design

  1. Determine the Purpose
Begin by clearly defining what you need the structure for. Are you primarily looking to protect vehicles from weather, or do you also need extra storage, a workshop, or a multipurpose space? Knowing the intended use will guide the size, design, and features you require.

  2. Check Local Zoning and Setbacks
Each municipality in Ontario has specific zoning bylaws that regulate how large your garage or carport can be and where it can be placed on your property. These rules include setbacks from property lines, maximum height limits, and total allowable coverage of your lot. Confirming these details early helps avoid costly redesigns or permit rejections.

  3. Choose Between Attached or Detached
Decide if the garage or carport will be directly connected to your home or stand as a separate structure. Attached garages often provide convenience and additional access to your house, while detached options can offer more design flexibility and can be placed where space allows. This choice impacts the foundation, roofing, and possibly permit requirements.

  4. Select the Location
Choosing the right spot is essential for accessibility and functionality. Ideally, the location should connect smoothly to your driveway and allow for easy vehicle movement. Avoid areas with underground utilities, steep slopes, or poor drainage, as these can complicate construction and add to costs.

  5. Design for Size and Clearance
Accurate dimensions are crucial for practical use. Make sure your design accommodates your vehicle(s) with extra space for opening doors, storage, or workshop areas. Also, consider Ontario’s snow loads and ensure sufficient height clearance for snow accumulation and any vehicles or equipment.

  6. Pick Suitable Materials and Finishes
Durability and aesthetics should both be considered when selecting materials. Common options include pressure-treated wood, steel, aluminum, or composite materials designed to withstand weather changes. The finishes should complement your home’s exterior and require minimal maintenance.

  7. Plan Roofing and Drainage
Your roofing system must efficiently shed rain and melting snow to avoid damage or water pooling. Incorporate a suitable slope and gutters or downspouts that direct water away from your foundation. Good drainage protects both the structure and your property from potential water damage.

  8. Consider Electrical and Lighting Needs
Modern garages and carports often include electrical elements for convenience and safety. Plan for sufficient lighting, power outlets, and possibly features like motion sensors or electric vehicle charging stations. Ensure all electrical work complies with Ontario’s building codes and is installed by qualified professionals.

  9. Prepare and Submit Permit Applications
Prepare detailed drawings including site plans, floor layouts, elevations, and structural details as required by your local municipality. Submitting accurate and complete permit applications speeds up approval and keeps your project compliant. Working with a professional designer or engineer can ensure your plans meet all regulations.

  10. Budget and Construction Planning
Estimate all costs involved, from permits and materials to labor and inspections. If hiring a contractor, get multiple quotes and check references to ensure quality and fair pricing. Alternatively, if planning a DIY build, plan your timeline and source materials carefully to avoid delays or cost overruns.
Our success story
Permit application for Carport

Permit application for Carport

Permit Canada created the drawings for the carport for one of the clients in Brampton, Ontario. This carport provided a storage space for the owner's beautiful cars. The carport is attached to the building and its posts are anchored to the slab on ground.

This is how its done....

Permit Canada visited the site and discussed the requirements of the customer. We took the measurements at the site and created a list of all points regarding the design objectives. The client's requirement was to build a detached car garage on his property. The outer dimensions of the garage was 22' (length) x 12' (depth) along with only two support at the ends. We took the project and designed the required deck asper the client's satisfaction.
